Ontario Trillium Foundation Grant to help increase operations

Grant to help purchase and install large walk-in freezer

Thank you to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for selecting the Ottawa Food Bank to receive a $150,000 grant to help increase our capacity.

The money from this generous grant will go toward the purchase of a much-needed 3-tiered, 27 pallet, high-efficiency walk-in freezer. This freezer will be used to safely store frozen meat and frozen vegetables.

With our focus on fresh and nutritious food, and with growing programs like One More Bite, we need to ensure we have adequate space to safely store these items. This walk-in freezer will help to ensure we have enough space to grow while continuing to abide by all safe food handling measures.

One More Bite is our meat recovery program where our generous grocery store partners flash freeze meat products prior to their expiration date, and then donate them to the Ottawa Food Bank. We provide these in-demand products (poultry, pork, beef, fish) to meal programs and community food banks across the city.

As it is right now, our freezer space is at capacity. With our need to grow our programming to continue to be able to provide these healthy choices, our only option is additional freezer space. THANK YOU to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for making this possible.
