The Ottawa Food Bank is ready to provide produce throughout the winter months

ReFRESH is the Ottawa Food Bank’s winter produce program, where $50,000 is allocated specifically to purchasing fresh fruits and vegetables to provide to our member agencies throughout the winter.

This is the second year for the Ottawa Food Bank reFRESH program after a small scale pilot in 2014.

In 2014,  a small scale pilot was run to help determine the need in the community, food items that should be included, and the cost. We were able to conduct this pilot program largely in thanks to the wonderful contribution from the community through the 2014 CBC Ottawa’s Project Give campaign.

During the summer and harvest months, the Ottawa Food Bank is able to provide produce that is grown directly from our own farm land on the Tom Black Family Farm through our Community Harvest Program. This past summer, we grew and distributed roughly 90,000 lbs of produce.

This winter, we will focus on purchasing and distributing apples, oranges, potatoes, onions and carrots. This is part of our continued effort to not only provide food, but to provide healthy food.
