reFRESH Officially Launched!

The Ottawa Food Bank is excited to officially launch our new reFRESH program this week.  This program will provide fresh produce to our Community Food Bank network throughout the winter months, when we’re no longer able to harvest from our Community Harvest farming program.

For the very first time, we will be able to provide a sustainable supply of fresh produce to Community Food Banks during the winter months. Fruit and vegetable selection in the program will include potatoes, carrots, onions, bananas, oranges, and apples along with the produce donations received from our partners.

Last year, we ran a small scale pilot reFRESH program to help determine the need in the community, food items that should be included, and cost. We were able to conduct last year’s pilot program largely in thanks to the wonderful contribution from the community through CBC Ottawa’s Project Give.

We were beyond thrilled to see some of the program’s produce get loaded onto the trucks this morning to head out into the community. This program will help us continue to strive to get better and better at not only feeding people, but feeding people well.
