10th Annual Food Aid Day a Success!

This year’s Food Aid Day was a great success; thanks to the wonderful generosity of the people and organizations in our community, together we raised $134,000!

The money raised on Food Aid Day will go towards the Ottawa Food Bank’s Food Aid Program, which purchases and processes beef for families in need. Ground beef can provide essential dietary nutrients and proteins that someone in need of food assistance may otherwise find difficult to obtain.

This year was the second year that we included a breakfast portion to the day. The Mayor’s Rural Expo also joined us once again, adding all the wonderful exhibits in City Hall. Thank you to all the great vendors who hung out with us all day!

Thank you to everyone who took the time to either come and join us at one of our participating locations, called in to CFRA, donated online, or sent a text to donate. You all have helped make a difference in the life of someone in our community.

Food Serving Stats:

  • Nearly $800 in pre-sale tickets for breakfast and lunch sold.
  • This year about 1,000 burgers at City Hall and 550 at Agriculture Canada were served.

A special thanks to everyone involved: CFRA, CTV Morning Live, the WORKS, Enbridge City of Ottawa – Rural Affairs Office and Mayor’s Office, Canadian Meat Council, Mechanical Contractors Association, Agriculture Canada / CFIA, Stanley Farm, Giant Tiger, Saputo, Target, MPI, Coffeemark, Ontario Federation of Agriculture, Farm Credit Canada, Canadian Cattleman’s Association, all the fantastic entertainment including Brea Lawrenson, the Lions Club, Ottawa’s Countryside, our celebrity pancake flippers and cow milkers, Stuntman Stu, our MC Alex Seguin, our entire Food Aid Committee and, of course, Wyatt McWilliams. THANK YOU ALL!
