Farm Boy and Empire Company Limited generously respond to the need in Ottawa after the storm

Generous donation to Ottawa Food Bank following tornadoes in the nation’s capital

(Ottawa) Empire Company Limited and Farm Boy wasted no time connecting with the Ottawa Food Bank to offer support after the impact of the tornadoes that touched down in the nation’s capital became clear.

Farm Boy is partnering with Empire’s Sobeys, FreshCo and Foodland stores to donate $50,000 to the food bank to help in their emergency food relief efforts across the city, predominantly in the west end of Ottawa.

“We are thrilled to receive this incredible support from Farm Boy and the Sobeys, FreshCo and Foodland stores in Ontario. It will allow the Ottawa Food Bank to continue to respond to communities affected by the power outages,” said Michael Maidment, CEO of the Ottawa Food Bank. “We expect to deliver a typical month’s worth of food in the next few days as we work to replace what has spoiled in our client’s homes and at 11 affected community food banks throughout the west end”.

The Ottawa Food Bank is currently working to restock supplies in community food banks as well as providing support to Ottawa Community Housing buildings and communities they don’t usually reach, as many of these residences are vulnerable and left in need of support.

“Our hearts are with all of the families in our community experiencing the devastating effects of the storm. We recognize the exceptional work being done by many to help recover and rebuild, including the Ottawa Food Bank who are working hard to ensure that food and supplies are reaching those in need. We are grateful for their efforts and are pleased to offer this contribution on behalf of everyone at Farm Boy,” said Donny Milito, Senior Vice-President, Retail Operations & Product Development.

“Our Sobeys, FreshCo and Foodland stores in Ontario, in partnership with the team at Farm Boy, wanted to do our part to make sure families don’t have to worry about food, water or other necessities in the aftermath of this storm,” said Michael Medline, President and CEO of Empire Company Limited.
