Canstruction

From May 30th until June 4th, The Ottawa Regional Society of Architects together with the Society for Design Administration is holding their annual Canstruction event in support of the Ottawa Food Bank and National Hunger Awareness Day (May 31st). Teams of architects, engineers and other design professionals will be putting creativity to the test as they design and build structures made entirely out of canned food items.

“Canstruction is such a creative team building event, and the food used in the structures is then donated to the Ottawa Food Bank,” says Peter Tilley, Executive Director of the Ottawa Food Bank. “It’s brilliant and a great initiative to recognize National Hunger Awareness Day.”
Structures will be on display at the Shenkman Arts Centre for public viewing until June 4th. Judging takes place today at 7:30 pm, with judges including CTV Ottawa’s Graham Richardson and CFRA’s Rob Snow.

“Canstruction is a national charity committed to ending hunger,” says event organizer Sonia Joanis. “We’re extremely proud to help the Ottawa Food Bank with its mission in this community.” Sonia also sends a special ‘shout out’ to this year’s teams who will be building structures:

  • Architecture for Humanity
  • grc architects
  • Smith Carter
  • IBI Group Architects
  • Stantec & Lumilux
  • KWC Architects Inc.
