Thanks for Giving Food Drive this Saturday, volunteers still needed

The Ottawa Food Bank to hold a one-day food drive blitz

For immediate release: October 8, 2015

(Ottawa)  The Ottawa Food Bank’s annual Thanks for Giving Food Drive is taking place this Saturday, October 10th.

Last year, the Thanks for Giving Food Drive raised 120,000 pounds of food over two weekends. This year, the food drive is a one day blitz taking place in 18 grocery stores throughout Ottawa.

Knowing it is increasingly difficult for families and individuals to afford to eat well, this food drive is crucial as it is the Ottawa Food Bank’s first food drive since the spring. Donated food from this drive will ensure the Ottawa Food Bank is able to restock its shelves in order to provide what is needed for clients of its network of 140 member food programs.

Volunteers at participating Loblaws, Metro, Superstore, and Your Independent Grocers locations will be handing out food donation bags and encouraging shoppers to donate their family’s favourite non-perishable and nutritious food items this Saturday. Financial donations will also be welcome at www.ottawafoodbank.ca.

Additional volunteers are still needed at various stores across the City. Please sign up online by visiting ofb.volunteerhub.com or call 613-745-7001.
