Volunteers Needed: Capital Food Blitz

Capital Food Blitz food drive hits grocery stores citywide this Saturday

Saturday, June 15 marks the 7th Annual Capital Food Blitz Food Drive. In an effort to stock the Ottawa Food Bank’s shelves for what is typically a lean summer season, customers at 18 local Loblaws, Metro, Superstore and Your Independent Grocer locations will be invited to donate their favourite non-perishable foods for families in need.

“Volunteers are still needed to ensure this food drive is a success,” says Jo-Anne Turple-Watson, Volunteer Coordinator with the Ottawa Food Bank. “With the next major food drive not hitting the streets until October, Capital Food Blitz is an important drive that brings much needed food into the Ottawa Food Bank warehouse for the summer months.”

Yasir Naqvi, Liberal MPP for Ottawa Centre and founder of Capital Food Blitz, along with members of Provincial Parliament, Federal Parliament, City Council and additional volunteers will be based at participating stores throughout Ottawa to assist the Ottawa Food Bank. Armed with paper food drive bags they will be encouraging customers at the grocery stores to contribute an item or two from a list of most-needed items like cereal, peanut butter, pasta sauce and tuna.

Volunteers are needed in grocery stores around the city from 1-4 p.m. on
Saturday, June 15.
