‘Leaving a legacy’ can look different for many people. For some, this means passing a namesake, knowledge, or money on to their kin. But for Robert “Bob” A., who did not have children before he passed, leaving a legacy meant supporting his community in the now and future.
Bob built a career in finance, working in the banking and trust industries. With his expertise, he opened his own financial services business. Bob was equally passionate about travel, seeing what the world had to offer through his own eyes. In some of his travels, Bob witnessed extreme case of poverty that inspired him to leave the proceeds of his estate where they would be most beneficial.
Upon Bob’s passing, a portion of Bob’s estate was dedicated to the Ottawa Food Bank, which serves a network of nearly 100 food programs, including 22 meal programs that provide healthy meals to visitors, some of whom are experiencing homelessness. Bob was committed to ensuring that after his passing his legacy would be one of supporting others.
By donating to the Ottawa Food Bank, Bob’s kindness will live on in Ottawa. As 1 in 4 households experience food insecurity in Ottawa, Bob’s gift will support the Ottawa Food Bank in purchasing healthy, fresh food and essential items like diapers.
Leaving a legacy through the Ottawa Food Bank’s Tomorrow’s Harvest program allows you to make a gift through a bequest, life insurance, or securities. Taking part in planned giving is a great way to make a lasting impact on reducing food insecurity in Ottawa.
