Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the minimum age to volunteer is 18 years
Position Title: Volunteer Food Sorter
Supervisor: Warehouse Coordinator
Purpose: To help the Ottawa Food Bank efficiently and effectively organize food for distribution to our agencies across the city.
Time Commitment: Flexible. When available, shifts run morning or afternoons, Monday to Friday
Tasks, Duties, & Responsibilities
- Unpack donated food
- Categorize and box donated food
- Check quality of product
- Check expiration and best before dates on food products
- Carry boxes to corresponding pallets
- Keep sorting table area clean and tidy
- Follow the direction of Warehouse Coordinator
Qualifications, Skills, & Requirments
- Able to read, write and identify product categories
- Able to lift 20 lbs beneficial, but not necessary
- Able to work effectively in a team
- Able to work with a diverse group of individuals
- Must follow directions of the warehouse staff
- Minimum age to volunteer alone: 14 years old
- Minimum age with supervision: 10 years
Health & Safety Requirements
- Due to health and safety regulations, volunteers are not permitted to use equipment
- Closed-toed shoes must be worn at all times
- Cell phones and ear phones are not permitted in warehouse
- Please read and abide by Health & Safety Ontario Manual Materials Handling
