Welcoming a New Truck to the Ottawa Food Bank

The Ottawa Food Bank has added a new refrigerated truck to our fleet thanks to the generous support of the Food Banks Canada, Ottawa Construction Association, and an anonymous donor. This new addition strengthens our ability to deliver fresh, nutritious food across Ottawa.

Last year, 8.3 million pounds of fresh and non-perishable food was delivered by our trucks and Operations team, reaching 71 agencies that operate 98 food programs. With our focus on fresh food distribution, cold chain logistics is an integral component of our operations. Our new 24’ refrigerated truck purchased with the support of our partners ensures that the food we deliver matches our standards for food safety by keeping meat, dairy, eggs, and produce cool.

While many agencies serve large populations, they operate out of smaller spaces and require deliveries to be broken down into smaller batches. An additional truck helps us make those frequent deliveries to agencies, so that agency staff and volunteers do not need to come to our warehouse for pickups or go without due to storage constraints.

Longstanding partners like Food Banks Canada, the Ottawa Construction Association, and our anonymous donor are vital to the stability of our operations, helping ensure that we can fill gaps – be it through food donations or operational purchases. We also want to acknowledge the Ottawa Construction Association’s outstanding commitment to community building. Their generous support of the Ottawa Food Bank through their 2025 charity golf tournaments not only helps raise vital funds but also promotes greater awareness of the food insecurity crisis in our city.

Thank you to our partners who supported the purchase of our new truck, and who ensure that our vital operations can continue to address the needs in our community. Thank you for driving change in Ottawa!
