On Friday, May 23rd, 2025, 49 spirited teams brought their passion for food security to TD Place Arena for the ninth annual Food Sort Challenge, presented by Mondeau Bathroom and Kitchen, a division of Boone Plumbing and Heating Supply Ltd.
Across six rounds, teams went head-to-head – or should we say can-to-can-to – to see who could sort 1000 pounds of food the fastest. Food sorting is an essential part of daily Ottawa Food Bank operations, and teams got to experience a sped-up taste of our process. Participating teams also raised funds to foster support for themselves and to raise awareness about Ottawa’s food insecurity crisis. We were amazed by the energy and dedication of our nearly 500 participants.

Congratulations to Chandos Construction, our Grand Prize Winner! Their incredible performance in round 1 achieved the Fastest Overall Sorting Time of just 18 minutes and 10 seconds, highlighting their exceptional teamwork and skill!
Special shout-out to MP Lundy Construction, who raised $ 17,130 and counting to become our Top Fundraiser of the event. Your generosity is truly inspiring and will help make a significant difference in our community!

Volunteers supported this year’s event in countless ways, from helping us reset the arena between rounds, to capturing memories through photos! We truly could not have done this event without all of you.
