Benchworks at Magpie

Local retailer, Magpie Jewellery has invited 8 Ottawa artists to try their hand at jewellery design.

Magpie is hosting a unique event on November 6 for the Apt613 “Support Local Month” initiative. Magpie has asked eight local artists and designers from varying backgrounds to design a piece of jewellery for the project “Benchworks”. Invitees include an architect, a sculptor, a photographer, a carpenter, contemporary artists and graphic designers

Initially three prototypes of each design will be on display at each of the three Magpie locations across Ottawa: in Westboro, the Glebe and the Rideau Centre. Customers will be able to try on and order the pieces of their choosing which will then be handmade to order.

The collection will also be available for viewing and purchase on Magpie’s website.

10 per cent of the profit from the sales of these pieces will be donated to the Ottawa Food Bank. Additionally on the evening of the exhibition 10 per cent of all Magpie Jewellery’s sales will also go to the Ottawa Food Bank.
