Volunteers Rooted in Community
It all started 42 years ago when a few passionate volunteers came together to respond to the needs of people in their community. Today, at the Ottawa Food Bank, volunteers remain at the heart of everything we do, helping to meet the needs of people experiencing food insecurity across the city.
In this year’s Volunteer Impact Report, we highlight the power of community connectedness in building a more food-secure Ottawa. Inside, you’ll find shared experiences, stories, and a deeper look at the meaningful role volunteers play in our daily operations.

One of the most powerful reflections of this impact comes directly from our volunteers. Administrative and Reception Volunteer, Stella N., shares what motivates her to give back to her community:
“First, I remember vividly my mother taking my siblings and I a couple of times each year to an orphanage in our town in Nigeria to give toys and books we weren’t using to the kids. I remember how excited they were to see us and be given things we no longer needed. My mother used to celebrate her birthday each year by visiting the orphanage, so I was taught at an early age the value of giving back to one’s community.”
