Hunger Doesn’t Take a Summer Vacation

As summer arrives, many of us look forward to sunny days, vacations, and family gatherings. However, for some families in Ottawa, summer brings a new set of challenges, especially when it comes to their children’s nutrition. Food insecurity doesn’t take a summer vacation.

When school ends, many critical in-school meal programs that keep children nourished and healthy also come to a close. That’s where the Ottawa Food Bank’s Summer Nutrition Program steps in, filling the gap by providing nutritious, kid-friendly snacks through partnerships with 31 community programs and summer camps. These programs ensure that children experiencing food insecurity have access to healthy food that fuels their summer activities.

This initiative is supported by the Mechanical Contractors Association of Ottawa (MCA Ottawa). MCA Ottawa has long been a supporter of the Ottawa Food Bank’s mission to end chronic food insecurity in our community.

On July 11, MCA Ottawa will be hosting its annual Closed Charity Golf Tournament, with proceeds going towards the Ottawa Food Bank’s Summer Nutrition Program.
