Powered by the generosity of our city, CBC Ottawa and the Ottawa Food Bank ended 2025 on a high note through the national Make the Season Kind campaign. The campaign supported food banks across Canada, including right here in Ottawa.
During the month of December, CBC Ottawa highlighted the work of the Ottawa Food Bank and the network through a series of stories on radio and television. These stories inspired listeners to learn about the realities of food programs across the city, the experiences of those with lived experience, and the stories of Ottawa Food Bank staff and volunteers who are helping us food bank differently.
We thank equiTABLE Resident Action Group members Teju Ade and Jonathan Brizard; member agencies including the Centretown Community Food Centre, The Ottawa Mission, Sadaqa Food Bank, and Westboro Region Food Bank; Ottawa Food Bank volunteer Rob Clarke; and Ottawa Food Bank staff member Tom Robson (Coordinator, Community Harvest). In addition to their existing work contributing to the community, these individuals and groups kindly participated in interviews that can be found on the CBC Make the Season Kind website.
On Friday, December 5, CBC Radio Ottawa devoted a day of programming sharing stories about the Ottawa Food Bank. During this time, we held a full-day call centre at the Ottawa Food Bank warehouse where listeners to CBC could call in to donate. The day began with an Ottawa Morning broadcast live from Hurdman Station, hosted by Rebecca Zandbergen featuring musical guests, The London Trio Plus and Miss McLeod. In the afternoon, All In A Day with Alan Neal was broadcast live from St. Laurent Shopping Centre, where supporters could and enjoy live performances by SAM’ Artiste Choir and Talia Aoude. The All in a Day Book Club organized an on-site used book sale with all proceeds going to the Ottawa Food Bank.
Inspired by stories all month long and a day of community, we raised:
$297,278.85
…and counting!
This donation represents contributions from across our community, including Dr. John Kershman and Family, Toon Dreessen and Architects DCA, an anonymous local business, and an anonymous family who matched gifts up to $45,000.
Thank you to all who supported this campaign by listening and sharing stories, volunteering their time, and giving generously.
