Leave a Legacy Month: Planting the Seeds for Tomorrow’s Harvest

Every May, communities across Canada recognize Leave a Legacy Month, a time to consider how the choices we make today can shape the future of the causes we care about.

At the Ottawa Food Bank, we see every day how community support helps ensure that neighbours across Ottawa have access to food and support when they need it most. Legacy giving offers another way to sustain that support, by planning a future gift that continues to strengthen our work in the years ahead.

Our planned giving program, Tomorrow’s Harvest, reflects that idea. Just as a harvest depends on seeds planted long before, planned gifts help ensure the Ottawa Food Bank can continue serving the community in the future. These gifts can take many forms: including a bequest in a will, a gift of publicly traded securities, or naming the Ottawa Food Bank as a beneficiary of a retirement fund or insurance policy.

Throughout the month, we will share four stories of supporters who have chosen to include the Ottawa Food Bank in their legacy plans. Each story highlights a different path to giving and the personal values that inspired it. From gifts of stock to thoughtful estate planning, these supporters show how planning ahead can make a lasting difference.

Their stories remind us that generosity can extend beyond a lifetime, creating stability and opportunity for those who follow.

As we recognize Leave a Legacy Month, we invite you to consider how you might take part in building a stronger future for our community. Planning a legacy gift is one way to help ensure that the Ottawa Food Bank can continue providing support to neighbours facing hunger.
