Food Sort Challenge 2026 Wrap-Up

On Friday, May 8, 2026, we marked our 10th edition of the Food Sort Challenge presented by Mondeau Bathroom and Kitchen, a division of Boone at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Ottawa. The floors vibrated as LiVE 88.5 emceed, and 43 teams stepped up to the table to fight for a more food-secure Ottawa.

Food sorting is an integral part of our daily operations at the Ottawa Food Bank. In this year’s Battle of the Cans, corporate teams sorted items into several categories, removed damaged items, and boxed up the sorted items – all while doing it at the speed of lightning! In addition to food sorting, teams rallied toward a fundraising goal of $2,500 and filled the room with high-energy teamwork. Across six rounds, all teams went head-to-head to see who could sort through 1,000 pounds of food as quickly and accurately as possible.

A huge thank you to all participants, volunteers, staff, and our partnering sponsors Mondeau Bathroom & Kitchen, a division of Boone, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Ottawa, and LiVE 88.5 for bringing rock’n’roll ambiance to the day. You bring energy and grit in our fight for a more food-secure Ottawa!

This year the event raised $177,814

Including over
$30,000 in in-kind donations.
