Bob’s Legacy: Planting Seeds for the Future

From farm roots to a future of nourishment, Bob’s legacy gift to the Community Harvest Farm is deeply rooted in his personal history and lifelong values.

Bob Morrissey is an Ottawa Food Bank volunteer, who’s witnessed firsthand the difference that fresh, locally grown food can make in the lives of individuals and families. The Community Harvest Farm resonates with him, as Bob explains, it “connects my farming roots with a mission that I care about profoundly.”

Those roots run deep. Having spent part of his childhood on a farm in Saskatchewan, Bob learned early on the “importance of food, land, and community.” Those experiences shaped his understanding of the work that goes into feeding people and the dignity that comes from ensuring no one goes without.

After a fulfilling career in the defense industry, both military and civilian, Bob is fortunate to be in a position to give back to an organization that matters deeply to him. His travels to more than 43 countries showed him “the harsh reality of hunger in many parts of the world, including Canada.” He also volunteered with international food banks and farms, witnessing firsthand the struggles faced by people without consistent access to food. These experiences strengthened his belief that “addressing hunger is one of the most meaningful contributions we all can make.”

Through his legacy gift, Bob hopes to extend his impact beyond his lifetime and help ensure that the values he holds: community, compassion, and the fundamental right to food “continue to grow for generations to come.” His gift is not only a reflection of his past, but also “an investment in a future where everyone has access to the nourishment they need to thrive.”

Bob’s generosity reflects the spirit of Tomorrow’s Harvest, the Ottawa Food Bank’s planned giving program. Like planting seeds in soil, his thoughtful gift will help realize a more food-secure future.
