World Food Day 2020 Food insecurity action donation hunger

World Food Day is celebrated every year around the world on the 16th of October in honour of the date of the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in 1945.

This year’s theme is Grow, Nourish, Sustain. Together. Our Actions are our Future.

The FAO encourages you to “Whether you’re a government, private business, NGO, journalist, city, or a civil society organization, we need you to spread the call for action through activities and events (even online, if COVID-19 health measures advise against physical gatherings).”

Below are a few ways you can help!

The Different Ways You Can Help

Make a Monetary Donation
You can help my making a donation to our cause by clicking the link below. Because we are able to obtain food in such large quantities and have amazing food industry partners and supporters, we can make your donation go further. This means that every dollar donated helps us deliver $5 of food to the community.

Donate Food

The bowl of cereal that fills a child’s stomach, the can of soup that warms an elderly person, the lunch that sustains the person working hard at finding employment—these are the situations that make the work we do so rewarding. Help the Ottawa Food Bank fight hunger by giving food.

Drop off your donation at one of our drop-off locations or at the Ottawa Food Bank.

Hold a Food/Fund Drive

You know that feeling you get when you donate to the Ottawa Food Bank? Why not share that feeling with your colleagues or friends by holding a food drive, fund drive, or fundraising event. There are many ways to do it – consider holding a physical food drive at the office or set up a virtual fundraiser to celebrate a special occasion. Not only will you be making a difference, but you’ll be having a lot of fun while you do it.

Food and fund drives, provide the Ottawa Food Bank with the necessary resources to sustain our programs and ensure that a supply of emergency food is available to those who may need it.

Thank you so much for supporting the Ottawa Food Bank.
