Leaving a Legacy: Major (ret’d) Lillian B. (1930-2024)

Major (ret’d) Lillian B., known as Lil by family and friends, left a legacy in many ways upon her peaceful passing.

For starters, Lillian was a trailblazer in the Canadian military, earning the Military Medal of Merit for her role in the Royal Canadian Air Force, Canadian Forces, and as a Foreign Liaison Officer. She joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in one of their first intakes of women into the regular forces in the early 1950s.

Lillian’s military work, paired with her upbringing during the Great Depression, shaped her to be an empathetic, giving person that cared deeply not just for her family, but for the community as well.

Outside of her dedicated career, Lillian was a proud supporter of the Ottawa Food Bank, which she supported for an incredible 24 years. Lillian has left her legacy not just through her trailblazing military career, but by dedicating a portion of her will to the Ottawa Food Bank.

By donating to the Ottawa Food Bank, Lillian’s kindness will live on in Ottawa. As 1 in 4 households experience food insecurity in Ottawa, Lillian’s gift will support the Ottawa Food Bank in purchasing healthy, fresh food and essential items like diapers.

Leaving a legacy through the Ottawa Food Bank’s Tomorrow’s Harvest program allows you to make a gift through a bequest, life insurance, or securities. Taking part in planned giving is a great way to make a lasting impact on reducing food insecurity in Ottawa.
