Advocating for Food Security in Ottawa’s 2025 Budget Process

As the City of Ottawa prepares to draft its 2025 budget, we encourage you to make your voice heard by attending a councillor-led public consultation. These sessions provide a unique opportunity to share your thoughts on why food security should be prioritized in the city’s budget.

The Ottawa Food Bank plays a vital role, but 98% of our funding comes from the community, while the City of Ottawa only contributes 2%.

This gap in funding needs to be addressed. Increased municipal support would ensure that we can meet rising demands, expand services, and help address the root causes of hunger. Prioritizing food security in the budget would contribute to a healthier, more resilient community. By attending a consultation, you can advocate for this crucial change.

Investing in food security is not only about feeding people but about creating a healthier, more resilient community. By advocating for food security in the budget, you can help shape a future where no one in Ottawa has to worry about where their next meal will come from.

How to Get Involved in the 2025 Budget Process

The City of Ottawa’s budget process offers several key opportunities for residents to provide input. This fall, we recommend attending a Councillor-Led Public Consultation in your ward.

From October to November 2024, these sessions allow you to provide input on budget priorities, including the importance of funding food security initiatives. Whether you attend virtually or in person, this is your chance to advocate for increased funding to support food banks and other essential services.
