Hi Joan,
Thanks so much for your support.
You can make a donation on our donation page at https://payment.csfm.com/donations/ofb/index.php.
If you make a note in the comments box on the donation form, we will be sure to attribute it to the GGGS.
Thanks again 🙂
This really is a splendid article. Thank you so much for taking the time to describe this all out for folks. It is a great help!
Can’t wait to get to Ottawa and take over Sparks Street with some hockey for the food banks!
We think so too! Today’s deal is a free pita from Extreme Pita! Check it out!
It was such a great day, thank you Richard and Five Hole for Food gang!
Since my children learned to eat peanut butter, that lasted for more than thirty years, continue my grand daughter, of course in my 85 years of age I do noit remember if it was Kraft or another, anyways that was good for them.
We definitely enjoyed a great day of golf and I really want to let Peter and his entire crew know what a pleasure it was to work on this tournament with them.
They treated the tournament like it was their own and I can’t thank you enough for all of your help.
Special thanks to Sarah and Maggie for all your help in design, organizing and volunteering at the tournament. No one was claiming a hole-in-one that day unless these two Ladies witnessed it! 🙂
I also want to thank Joanne and Samantha for their help the day of the tournament as well! These two Ladies raised alot of money at the putting competition and Joanne sold alot of raffle tickets!

Tournament Committee Chair

Ever since ODSP reduced the dietary supplement I am living ever more precariously! Something drastic needs to be done, we can’t continue to rely on Foodbank!
I was wondering if you could send me a file of John Ferguson, owner of Giant Tiger store 10. He was on your broadcast this morning (Nov. 1) talking about the Ottawa Food Drive. I missed it and would like to see it.
Thanks.
Hi Kevin. John Ferguson from Giant Tiger and Peter Tilley from the Ottawa Food Bank appeared on CTV Morning Live. The clip can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=apo_aFT4K58

Canukshuk… What a creative concept. Way to go, Halogen. What an attractive, visual way to donate to a food bank. This is freecycling on steroids!

Employees had a fun time and always enjoy helping support such a great cause! Thank you to the Ottawa Food Bank reps that took part as our chili judges!
I’d like to inquire about how I can be involved in selling some items for the food bank.
Thanks,
melanie
Hi Melanie,
I’ll write you and email to figure out how you can get involved.
Its amazing how many pelope will say they are “starving,” especially kids but I have been blessed and know that I haven’t had real hunger pains. That’s part of the reason I’m happy to contribute to helping others have food on their plates. There is always something that can be done to lend a hand and this is the season where need is all around us as temps drop. Thanks for the reminder.

Thank you.
Yvette Lalonde
Is this Sister Yvette? Form the Bruyere?!
Callum is extraordinary to be so considerate to others at such a young age. Congratulations to their parents for doing such a fine job!

To think at 4 years of age he has the conscience to help those in need. If everyone had the same inclination to do so on a daily basis, our communities and those less fortunate would be better off. Very inspiring, great job little guy and to the parents who are obviously imparting a sense of generosity in their son.

I’m just wondering if there will be anything available for vegetarians and vegans?
Hey Mel,
So sorry – I could have sworn I responded to you already!
Unfortunately there aren’t any veggie burgers during the lunch. However, this year a pancake breakfast has been added. Pancakes are vegetarian (not vegan) and there will be some fruit as well.
Thanks for your support!
When a family or individual in our community needs emergency food assistance, there’s an Ottawa Food Bank Member Agency around the corner. Whether it’s groceries for the family, a children’s breakfast before school or a hot meal at a shelter, our beneficiaries will receive help to get back on their feet. – The Ottawa Food Bank provides 48,000 people each month with emergency food assistance, 37 per cent of whom are children. – The Ottawa Food Bank supports more than 140 food programs throughout the National Capital Region. – 12-15 tons of food leaves our Michael Street warehouse each and every working day. – $1 donated to the Ottawa Food Bank generates $5 worth of food into the community.
Is there a poster that we can download so it can be posted @ our office in advance of the event??
There is!
I’ll send you an email 🙂
Hi there, I was also wondering if you could send us a poster so we can put it up in our store. If we would like to offer to pay for as many of our staff as we can, is there tokens/tickets that we can purchase in advance? We could also just send them with the money.
Thanks!

Hi! My school, Henry Larsen Elementary School on Sunview in Orleans, has raised A LOT of food in a food drive for the Me to We conference on Wednesday. We have raised over 2000 items of non perishable food and personal hygiene items. The Drive will be over on Tuesday morning and we would love if you could send someone here to pick it up. Be aware that there are A LOT of boxes and a larger truck than a van will definitely be needed.
Hi there Constance,

Food security is an sad issue in Ottawa, with 8% of Ottawa residents worried that they will not have enough food and money to feed themselves and their families every month. Helping others feels good, a lesson your young son was lucky enough to be taught. I encourage everyone who is touched by this story to ‘pass it on’ and do a good food security deed. Giving is a gift in itself.
I was pleased to participate at the Food Aid Day held in Ottawa City Hall. Thank you for supporting low-income families in need. Keep up the good work during these critical times.
Thank you for your kind words! Glad you could join us!
We had fun sorting it so it could go to those in need
On behalf of Chase Canada employees, you are very welcome! We had a blast at our site over the last month collecting all of these items and made quite the contest out of it. Thank you to the Ottawa Food Bank for all that you do to fight hunger in our community.

Hi Elaine,
As indicated in the above post, please email the volunteer coordinator, Jo-Anne, at volunteer@ottawafoodbank.ca
Thank you very much for your interest!
Cheers.
You should put in boundaries on the food types. Its horrifying that those that are in need are treated with a lack of consideration about their health. It seems those giving are being particularly selfish if they think they can donate crappy food and the poor need to suck it up and eat it. That’s not right! Kraft dinner should be banned. Most packaged foods are horrifyingly bad for the health. If someone can afford to spend $4 on a Kraft Dinner then go and spend it on a couple of cans of beans, or pasta, or pasta sauce. The selfishness and disdain that those donating seem to have for those in need is becoming fairly evident. Take what you’re given suck it up, be grateful. Well why don’t they give something of value instead of a toxic waste. I think you should ALL make policy changes. Soda is killing the young kids, its a luxury and offer no health value, only detrimental. These families need good food, nutritional food. I’m horrified that these things were even permitted to begin with.
Thank you for your comments. We definitely do what we can to encourage our donors to make healthy choices, but there is always room for improvement. On top of donations, we are particularly proud of our Community Harvest (fruit and vegetable farming), and Food Aid (beef) programs, as well as our relationships with organizations like the Chicken Farmers of Canada, Egg Farmers of Canada, and our milk program.
If donations of pop, candy, and the like are made, those items are not given to our member agency food programs in lieu of items such as pasta, produce, milk, beef, etc. They are added on as extras if they want them.
Thanks again. Enjoy your day.
You can’t assume that those who donate less nutritious foods do so because they think less of those who go hungry in this city. Perhaps they can appreciate that in addition to eating nutritious basics, kids in particular enjoy an occasional meal of KD, hot dogs and soda? And let’s get real, the only KD meal that costs $4 is the premium version. I’m sure that it’s the $1 basic boxes that are donated because that is the classic version that many families enjoy as an affordable “treat”. It may not be the most nutritious choice but it’s convenient, cheap and temporarily fills bellies that are often empty. Gifts should not be turned away but the Ottawa Food Bank is taking the right approach by offering balanced choices to families. And their efforts to build relationships with providers of quality meats, produce, eggs, milk, etc is evidence of their commitment to providing nutritious food to those in need.
The thing is food banks don’t have a surplus of food if they all banned certain food then that would mean far less food.
so true thank u!
I believe you are being too harsh and narrow minded anonymous. Just because a bottle of pop or a bag of chips is donated doesn’t mean that those people think less of those in need, did you ever consider they are including them either alone or along with healthy items as a treat for families? I started donating food when I was in high school through a hamper program at Christmas and thought it was such a good idea I have continued to do something similar on a smaller scale when my family can afford to. When we donate we make sure our package includes good foods like fruit, vegetables, pasta, breads, meats etc. We also include household items like toothpaste, shampoo, soap etc and yes treats. It is not we think less of those in need it is because we think everyone wants and deserves a treat whether that’s some pop, hot dogs, candy bars, cupcakes etc. We have also in the past included pet food, which can be costly, for those families that have pets. When we include household items, treats or pet food we are not replacing the nutritious food we donate we are donating them on top of good and healthy foods because everyone should be able to have a treat every now and then. I understand not wanting donations of solely candy or pop but to complain or insult those that do or to imply we don’t care or as Samantha below put it “room for improvement” I find in incredible poor taste and some what narrow minded. Not because you, the food banks or those who need it should be grateful but because those of us who donate a variety of items so families can have more items they not only need but would enjoy including treats actually do put thought behind our donations and frankly I feel like it is a great slap in our faces just because we included something to hopefully brighten somebodys day.
Thank you for your comments Liz.
To clarify, “always room for improvement” is on our (the Ottawa Food Bank’s) end. There are always ways for us to improve how we encourage donors, always ways for us to improve the product we distribute, etc etc. We’re constantly looking for ways for us to be our very best.
Cheers.
I wish to thank all of you so much for the valuable services you provide for this fine city. Your organization is heaven sent to people in need! Well done and a big thank you.
We really appreciate your comment. Thank you Terry.
In light of recent media stories regarding a decision by the Parkdale Food Centre to limit certain types of food donations your response is greatly appreciated.
It’s unfortunate how the person or persons have decided to bring awareness about the need of healthy food donations, and perishable food donations. I am sure it is the general interest of Parkdale Food Centre and the Food Bank to “attract donations, not attack the donations”, which is what has happened by this recent media coverage.
By coincidence, I was going through my cookbooks when I came across a pamphlet that I thought is worth sharing with you and Parkdale Food Centre. It’s from Kingston’s Loving Spoonful organization (www.lovingspoonful.org). This program reclaims surplus foods from restaurants, caterers, grocers, wholesalers, and farmers. If your organization and/or Parkdale Food Centre is not already actively seeking donations in this format you may want to consider this for the future.
In closing, it would be more helpful, it may attract more donations if future persons (spokespersons) state facts about poverty and add “Now, try to eat a health diet.”
God bless you and all those working to help the needy.
Mary Regan
Kingston, ON
Thank you for your kind words and for sharing about the program in Kingston.
The Ottawa Food Bank does have a few programs that do very similar things.
Thank you again.
I spent 6 years using food banks and my church benevolent. Everything donated I appreciated and used. We are not old England Dickens style poverty these days. There are no workhouses and orphanages. There is absolutely nothing wrong with food banks having Kraft dinner or fresh peaches. Most of us working/non working Poor need whatever we can get to make meals for our families. A box of KD or cheezies may not be the best nutrition choices but added into a family food supply for the week will keep a child going until the next day. Most families need supplements/vitamins/fresh fruit/meat etc. If there is a day or two between a nice offering of fresh stuff then KD and fruit rollups and cookies and sugary cereals will keep hunger at bay.
I was invited via email to attend an information session to take the next step required for me to participate in volunteer activities.
That’s great, Osman. Please ensure you emailed Jo-Anne at volunteer@ottawafoodbank.ca to confirm you’ll be going.

Good morning Marie,
The tickets are not sold through the Ottawa Food Bank for this wonderful event. However, I do know that they are usually sold at a restaurant in the Preston area. We have yet to hear from the Guild of Potters when or where the tickets will be sold this year. There is a link above to their website, I recommend you keep checking that until they post an update.
Sorry I don’t have any further information for you at this time.
Best of luck.

We hope to see you there.

Hello. Will there be a veggie burger option?
Thank you!
Hi Eric,
Yes – there will be veggie burgers. As this is the first year that a veggie option will be offered, it’s a bit of a trial run with limited numbers.
I recommend you show up earlier rather than later. Let the payment table know that you’d like a veggie burger.
Cheers.
See you tomorrow!
I am so proud of these two little girls, for giving back to their community. Their great-grandparents built a strong sense of community in their children and grandchildren, and now it continues with Isabelle and Vivienne! Love you both! xoxo
A great idea! Will be bringing my coupons.
Trying to volunteer to work on Saturday for food drive at Vanier Loblaw but your page will not let me answer either yes or no to the question “Are you biligual? English/French”.
10am to 1pm shift
Answer is Not perfectly … But I manage to answer questions and help people out.
Thanks MK – I’ll pass your message and email on to our volunteer coordinator – she’ll contact you shortly.
Are you having a breakfast with Santa this year,2015?
Hi there Katiza,
This event was hosted by the The Old Ottawa South Community Association (OSCA) – so you would have to ask them if they’ll be doing it again.
Cheers.
Wonderful! Much appreciated in the community, I’m sure!
I found a Christmas ball on George St. the Byward Market tonight – Dec. 13 2015 – and posted a selfie with message and #FillPlates on Instagram – handle bravoj30 – good program, fun contest, great cause!
Thanks Jason! Glad you posted a picture, and thanks for your kind words. Cheers!
We look forward to donating each year. My daughter, husband and I (and now new born baby)always put together two boxes plus other things we donate throughout the year. We love doing it and recognize how important it is. Most years we don’t find out where the drives are occurring until the last minute (if at all. eg.this year)
Is there a way for busy families who don’t have time to watch TV often or be on Facebook or Twitter to know how to donate in a timely manner?
We will definitely make sure this year’s donation makes it somewhere important!
Thank you for all the good work you do! We just want to help as much as we can!
Merry Christmas!
Thank you for your support and your kind words! This year, feel free to place your donation in one of our red donation cages at a grocery store near you.
Sorry you didn’t make it to a OC Transpo location. Once we know the locations, we always put them on our website in our event calendar. Here’s what this year’s event post looked like: https://www.ottawafoodbank.ca/event/oc-transpo-annual-christmas-food-drive/
Merry Christmas Jessica, and congratulations on the new baby!
My daughter and I found an ornament at Brewer Pool and it reminded me to make my donation! This was a great idea… original and fun. Thank you!
Such a great cause
Thank you for sharing this story. Elliott is our little gandson and I’m sure he will tell us all about his visit at the Ottawa Food Bank when we return from Florida.
Thank you for all the work you do for the community!
Wow! Five years old! Way to go Ellyott! Thanks for sharing with us, his visit at the food bank.
Claire
Adorable!
I totally agree with the comments I saw, it’s never ok to give “crappy” food to people that are starving and expect their gratitude. It is entirely selfish and cold. I believe that it is our responsibility to look out for eachother.
I tried to apply for the Receptionist/Office Coordinator
on Indeed, but the Web page would not function is there a contact email I could get to forward my resume.
Excellent initiative!
I think my monthly contribution is the best investment I could make in this community!
I thank and applaud all the people working at the Food Bank!!!
Thank you so much for being a monthly donor, Lyne. Your year-round gift makes a huge difference in the lives of people who require this emergency assistance.
Is this initiative something that the recipients actually want, or are we playing a patronising “we know best” ?
Hi Chris,
Thanks for your question. Nothing about this is meant to be “patronizing” in any way. This started with community consultations, which included our community food program partners, who get requests for healthier options often, and who quickly run out of milk, ground beef, and produce – as these are popular items.
We don’t claim to always know best. We brought in Ottawa Public Health to help guide us on what swaps should be made to help lower things like sodium in the non-perishable items that we purchase.
So far, this shift has been greatly accepted and appreciated.
Cheers.
Excellent initiative, buying fish (about time!) and fresh fruits and vegetables, milk and yogurt: all wholesome and delicious essentials for a sensible, healthy lifestyle!
More power to the decision makers in the matter of wise food purchasing!
Cheers.
Elise
Thank you, Elise.
As a firm believer in the benefits of a plant-based diet, I am happy to hear that the Ottawa Food Bank is increasing the amount of fresh produce offered to its clients. I feel that the produce grown by the food bank’s farm workers is a wonderful and beautiful addition to the diet of users of the Food Bank. I do hope vegetarian and vegan clients will be remembered in the new initiative, by offering such foods as tofu, lentils, beans, nuts and seeds and soy and nut milks, which are so important to those of us who choose to avoid animal protein! Thanks so much for all the Ottawa Food Bank does to improve the lives of many : )
Thanks for your kind words, Marion. We truly appreciate it.
ALL THE YEARS I BEEN HELPING OUT WITH OCTRANSPO FOODDRIVE EVERY YEAR SO I MIGHT BE DOING THAT THIS YEAR AGAIN I ALWAYS ENYOY DOING THAT HELPING OUT OCTRANSPO XMAS FOOD DRIVE STUART BELANGER
i voulteer with one of the local food banks . i have also been active voulteer at the main centre. the need getting biggerv
Hi,
Is this open for tourists in Canada as well ?
Hi there,
I suspect not – but this would have to be a question that you direct to Loblaw Companies
If individuals donate their gift cards to OFB or another registered charity, would the donation be tax deductible, as in eligible for an in kind charitable receipt? I am volunteer Treasurer at Dalhousie Food Bank, and do not have direct access to contact at CRA. And would like to know if your group has thoughts or concerns
Thanks

It was our pleasure! At ProntoForms, we like to say we use our powers for good! This was doing some good in a very meaningful way!

I don’t know where the proper website is.
That is wonderful! It may be helpful to put your offer out on Facebook or Twitter – or perhaps walk around a near by neighbourhood and see if anyone is out and in need of assistance. Thank you for your kindness.
Will this be available on Wednesday or Thursday as I am now out of town due to power outage. I was unable to get to the Ritchie food bank and will not have a ride back in town until Wednesday morning. We lost everything in our freezer and fridge…We are 2 adults and a child age 4
Hi there Madeline,
Emergency support will be available throughout the week. Food program locations will be different than the ones listed above so please either give us a call (613-745-7001) when you are back in town, or keep an eye on our posts for updated information.
I have diapers (size 2 and 3) and wipes that I would like to donate to Tornado victims if needed. Please let me know where I can bring these.
Thanks wonderful – thank you! These donations are always needed as they’re among the most expensive items.
You can bring them to us here at 1317 Michael Street, or drop them off in one of our donation bins at a grocery store near you. Thank you very much for your kindness.

Hi we are in desperate need of foos as everything was lost in power outage. Where can i go wed.
Hi Natasha,
The Wednesday list will be compiled soon. Also – feel free to call us as of 8am when our office is open and we will be able to tell you where to go. 613-745-7001
Are you accepting food donations (not just financial)? Was going to canvas my neighbourhood and fill my car with donations
We certainly are! Thank you so much for your willingness to coordinate that.
When you’re ready to drop off your donations, we are located at 1317 Michael Street and we’re open Monday – Friday, 8AM to 4PM. Thank you very much, Jordana.
Are children’s clothes needed??
I have girls and boys clothes available sizes newborn to 3T! Comes from smoke free and outside pets home!
Hi there Daniele,
Thank you for your question. I would recommend you reach out to the Salvation Army about their clothing needs. They would be better equipped to help you make that donation.
Thank you so much for your support and generosity to the community.
I believe you have omitted the Parkdale Food Centre as one of your partners in this effort; as a volunteer who worked at the PFC the Monday following the tornado I was part of an effort to produce over 1000 bagged lunches for those neighbours and communities affected. I’ve also seen first hand how PFC has helped those affected by the storms by offering an additional visit to the PFC for the month of October. I’m sure it is just an error on your part to have not included them, they do play a critical part in the Community of Food Centres in Ottawa.
You’re right! They were instrumental in their community – they are an incredible program and we’re honoured to work with them. They are fortunate to have volunteers like you. Thank you for all you do to help Parkdale and your community, Deborah.
Où sont les informations en français sur votre site web?
On regrette mais notre site, et la plupart de nos ressources ne sont pas disponibles en français pour le moment. Nous travaillons pour devenir bilingue en 2019.
Hi,
We would like to do a fresh food drive. Do you pick up the items or do they need to be dropped off?
Thanks
Danielle
Hi there Danielle,
Thank you for your question. It would depend on when you’re doing the drive and how much would be required to be picked up! If lots gets donated, we can certainly pick it up. Otherwise, please feel free to come visit us to make your donation at 1317 Michael Street, Monday to Friday between 8AM and 4PM.
If you have any questions about doing a food drive or need any support, please reach out to our events team at events@ottawafoodbank.ca
Thank you!

St. Joe’s is a wonderful program that we are honoured to work with – I hope you got what you needed from them.

Good morning Ms. Winkler,
The Ottawa Food Bank does not directly have a Christmas Hamper program. While we provided food to food programs across the city, they are their own independent charities. I recommend you contact your food program directly with your question. They will be able to better help you.
Hi!
Wanted to know if overseas candidates are applicable for this post?
Hi there,
If you’re permanently moving to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and have the applicable experience, skills, and training I would recommend that you apply and explain everything in your cover letter.
Thank you for your interest.
I gave a $100.00 donation for your Christmas project. Did not receive my receipt by email.
Good morning Ms. Wood,
Could you please send an email to foodbank@ottawafoodbank.ca and I’ll make sure to put you in touch with who can help you get your receipt? Thank you kindly!
Hello
I am very interested in this job. Actually
I tried to apply on the last day,
but the link was removed ….
can I still apply, and if so how ?
thanks
Thank you for your interest. It looks as though the application window is closed.
Hello,
I currently work at Loblaws. I notice that we waste SOOO much food. The good thing is that it all goes to a bin which is taken to pig farms as pig food. Most of these bins are filled with peels, cores, seeds, and rotten produce all of which we cannot eat. But we also throw out perfectly edible food, simply because of a small scratch or something of the sort. Just yesterday I saw someone throw out a potato because it had a bruise the size of my fingertip.
I was wondering if it would be possible for you to reach out to Loblaws here in Ottawa, and see if you can find some sort of partnership where foods which are deemed “unsellable” such as slightly bruised or scratched produce and “expired” goods can be put to good use to feed those in need. Would something like this be possible? I’d love to help in any way if I can.
Hi there Andy,
Thank you for reaching out and thank you for your concern.
We currently do a significant amount of food recovery with grocery stores – Loblaws included. In 2018 we received over 2,100,000 pounds of recovered/donated goods from grocery stores – which works out to well over $5million worth of food. Over half of that was fresh food, including produce, dairy, meat, and bread.
There is a limit we can take, as we want to ensure we only receive quality items, as well we can’t take more than we can safely store to ensure proper and healthy keeping and maintaining the cold chain.
This food sorting challenge sounds like a lot of fun, and I will be doing this challenge with my friends. I hope that my mates won’t say no to this challenge since a few of them are a little busy with work right now.
When is thois years walk, 2019?
I can’t seem to find solid info anywhere?
help?
Hey there. I’m sorry I don’t have any information for you. I don’t believe we have heard from the organizers yet this year.
These look so easy to prepare and look so healthy. I can’t wait to make. Thanks so much.
Thank you. Enjoy!
Hoe do i get christmas basket. And toys for my kids.
Good morning Angela,
Please call 2-1-1. They will be able to tell you where to go for your Christmas Extras as well as let you know about any toy programs that are available in the city.
211 is an excellent referral resource to use when looking for social supports. They have a wide range of knowledge about what is available in the city.
learned very much thank you
That’s great! Thank you for joining us.
Now that the prices of rents has gone sky high, there will be even more people homeless. For example, a 2 bedroom apts. it is now at least $1500/mth, 1bedroom apts. $ 1000/mth, 3bedrooms apts. $2000/mth. This will affect those who are on disabilities, can’t find work, or can’t work for any reasons, students etc. Now, there will be even more people at the food bank.
I know that at the moment the waiting list at the registry is between 4-10 years and hope the government will do something about the rental housing affordability.
Thank you for your comment, Nathalie. With the increase of the number of people on the wait list, I don’t doubt the amount of time has also increased. It is truly unfortunately and is causing more barriers for people in need and setting them back even further. We agree – we need to see change in affordable housing, and we need to see it sooner rather than later.
Hello Michael,
I had the pleasure of meeting you at “Heals For Meals” this fall.
I am leading our Nordstrom Cares Committee Food Drive for the holidays. We have large donations arriving from our restaurant food suppliers (Cisco and ItalFoods), and collecting from our entire store.
Our Committee of ten members would like to deliver our donation on Monday, December 9th at approximately 10:30-11 am and assist in stocking your shelves with our donation.
Please get back to me at your earliest convenience to discuss our mission.
Good morning – this sounds fantastic!Thank you so much for this support – it means so much to us and the community.
Can I ask that you please send an email to events@ottawafoodbank.ca? The events team can help to make sure your donation is received and all is taken care of.
Thank you again!
Would like to know where the greatest need is this year? Also do you have any volunteer opportunities? Thank you.
Please reach out to our volunteer coordinator at volunteer@ottawafoodbank.ca
Thank you!
This is amazing!
I am so proud of living in a city with people with such a big heart!
Isn’t it incredible?! We are always so touched and blown away by the generosity of people. It truly is lovely.
I am looking for formula for preemie triplets. Do you have anything?
Mom is in need. (I am her Birth Companion to help support her with Mothercraft)
Hi there,
Can you please send me an email at foodbank@ottawafoodbank.ca with your home address and I’ll let you know what food program is your area.
They may be able to help you with formula needs, and then we can go from there.
Thank you!
Hi.
I’m on ODSP and live in the Centretown area. You have saved me from starvation more times than I can count.
I’m physically able, living with PTSD effects which prevent me from holding employment long-term.
I am concerned that as this pandemic progresses, Food Bank users might not be able to feed themselves in self-isolation or quarantine, thus compromising the immune systems of people already living on the fringe of survival.
I believe that I will be able to use my hand cart to deliver a couple of loads of food a day within the Centretown area. If that would be helpful, please let me know.
My name is decipherable from my e-mail address.
Hi there,
I really appreciate you sharing your story, your kind words, and your willingness to help.
At this time, we are not taking those measures where we’re calling on the community to take on deliveries. If for any reason we need to adopt a model like that, we will keep you in mind. Thank you. You have a wonderfully generous heart.
Hi,
Do you have an increased need for volunteers? I’d really like to help during the pandemic. Also, does the Food Bank have a social media presence, or somewhere we can check what is most needed in our community right now? Thank you for your time!
-Samantha
Hey there Samantha,
Thank you for your question. We are evaluating needs right now. I would recommend you keep an eye on our Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram (we can be found at @OttawaFoodBank on all platforms) for any calls for volunteers or other needs at this time.
Thank you for your willingness to help!
Rideau rocklife community center ttre is now closed,as iams sure you are aware, due to a staff member being tested positive for covid virus. Where would I go to pick up food? Ty for your help and time
Hi there Anne,
Yes – we are aware, they are doing their due diligence as there was possible exposure, however it is not a confirmed case of COVID-19.
Can I ask that you please write to foodbank@ottawafoodbank.ca with your address? From there we will find an solution for you.
Thank you.
Am I able to drop off non perishable goods to you on micheal st??
Hello there Ray,
Thank you for wanting to help. Yes – so long as you are feeling well and have not traveled recently, we are still open and accepting donations at this time. Thank you for thinking of us and the community.
I am one of the vulnerable, in self isolation. Will the food bank be making deliveries?
Good afternoon Lori,
Can I ask that you please write to foodbank@ottawafoodbank.ca with your home address and we can go for there to help find a solution that works for you?
Thank you very much.

Hello, I made a donation to Food Banks Canada, COVID-19 Response Fund.
Does the Ottawa Food Bank receive contributions from this fund?
Keep up the amazing you work, you are saving lives! Thank you 🙂
Hey there Grace,
I believe you also reached out through social media – you’ll find your answer there 🙂
Thanks for supporting Canadians at a national level!
Hi
Do you need any help in anyway? Happy to support (while respecting Covid guidelines of course).
Hi there Ms. Payne,
At this time we ask that volunteers create profiles on our Volunteer Hub. In here you’ll see a volunteer calendar where you can sign up for shifts to help out. If we have to put out a larger call for volunteers, you’ll get notified as well after you create your profile.
Thank you so much for your willingness to help!

I’m a teacher and visual artist in Ottawa, i create contemporary paintings.
Please inform me on your next charity auction, I may want to submit work in these difficult times.
Hi! Thank you for thinking of us. The blog posts you are commenting on is in relation to a third-party event in support of the Ottawa Food Bank. We do not have any upcoming events at this time due to the current situation – but, you are welcome to reach out to our events team at events@ottawafoodbank.ca in the future with this support.
I am in dire need of food. I did pick up some groceries at the Bank st location two weeks ago. Am I able to get any more?
Thank you
Hi. We are sorry to hear about your current situation. Please give us a call at (613) 745-7001 so that we can better assist you in obtaining food.
I have tried a few times but can’t get past the voice mail. Am I able to return to the Bank st location on Saturday to get some groceries?
Thank you
Hi! We’re sorry that you can’t get through. To find out information on where and how to pick up food near you, please input your address in the lookup tool that I have linked below. This should tell you information on how to get food near you.
https://www.ottawafoodbank.ca/get-help/
I understand that. I did get some groceries two weeks ago. I’m trying to find out if I can get more.
I know I was told that I can only get help once per month I am wondering if this emergency allows for additional help. Thanks very much. Please let me know if I can visit the Bank st location on Monday.
Hi, please try to keep calling so that we can find an emergency location for you. We apologize for our phone lines being occupied with the high volume of incoming calls.
Is there an email contact for people with no phone service?
Hi, thank you for reaching out! Absolutely, please contact foodbank@ottawafoodbank.ca with any inquiries you may have.
While you are putting out the call for help, I believe you are misleading the people of Ottawa by saying you’re servicing city wide. This isn’t true. There are suburban food banks that are independent. Stittsville food bank is run by unpaid volunteers. Be honest!
Our apologies if something said made it sound like we were in Stittsville. You are correct that the food programs in Stittsville, Kanata, and Barrhaven are not part of the Ottawa Food Bank member agency network. They are doing fantastic work in their communities – and we welcome working with them in the future.
We currently provide food to 112 incredible food programs across the city. The majority are in Ottawa “proper” but some are also in outskirt communities as well.
The pancake recipe doesn’t say which type of oats. Fast cooking? Old fashioned? And who use small eggs? I’ve never seen that in a recipe.
Simple quick oats will work. And I”m sure whatever size egg you have will be fine as well.
Enjoy!
I used 1 large instead of 2 small and they worked out just fine.
It’s a good recipe.
Amazing! We’re glad to hear that you liked it.
I am trying to donate my PC Optimum Points, but I don’t see Ottawa Food Bank as a choice on the Shopper’s Drugmart website. Can you help me, please?
Thank you,
Gloria Sauvé
Hi! Thank you for reaching out. Unfortunately, since we posted this blog post, PC Optimum donations have changed, and at this time it appears you can only donate your points to PC Charities.
Thats unfortunate. I wanted to do the same.
Im confused. So the foodbanks are shut down? How will people who accessed them get food?
Hi. Thank you for your concern. This post refers to this specific event being cancelled. The food banks are still operating. To find out information on where and how to pick up food near you, please input your address in the lookup tool that I have linked below.

Hi !ihave DZ license and I’m looking for a job if you take me will be great
Hi! Thank you for reaching out. Unfortunately, we are currently not hiring any drivers. But, please be on the lookout for any job postings that may come in the future.
Great Idea! I loved listening to Canada’s talented musicians. Thank You.
The songs have been so well done! The talent of these local musicians is incredible – I can’t imagine being able to create something that good (or something at all!) in 24 hours! Thank you for tuning in.
Job well done for all of you! Inspiring and humbling …as a listener. Donation on its way. Thank you so much for making this city and better place to live for all of us.
We’re so happy you enjoyed CBC’s special broadcast today. Thank you for tuning in and thank you so very much for your kind words and support.
Hello, a community garden located on the intersection of Woodward Avenue and McBride Street has a few food bank plots and are wondering where they should donate their produce? Can you please advice. Thank you! And for future reference, where should we direct community gardens to drop off their food bank donation? Appreciate your help.
Hi there! Thanks for letting us know.
If anyone wishes to donate produce from their gardens (whether community plots, or on own property) they are welcome to bring it directly to us at 2001 Bantree Street. We are open Monday to Friday, 8AM until 4PM. One request is to NOT drop produce off on a Friday, as it will unfortunately sit through the weekend before Monday’s delivery. We like to get produce out the door as quickly and fresh as possible. Thanks again!
Good morning!
We, at Rideau Park United Church, are looking at options for our fall Bazaar. Could you tell me what platform you are using for the advertising, bidding, etc.? Thank you so much
Hi! Thank you for reaching out. The Glebe Garage Sale will be using the GiveShop app. I do not think there are bidding capabilities on this platform.
hey I downloaded the link but in trying to establish an account it wanted a charity but it kept giving me no option. I have a racoon coat I want to sell – could go for $300. What do I do?
prmahon@rogers.com
When i go on the app to check off the charity of choice, the Great Glebe garage sale does NOT come up as a choice? Am i doing something wrong?
Hi! Thank you for reaching out. For your charity of choice, if you are trying to support our cause, you need to enter Ottawa Food Bank as a charity. The GiveShop app already knows you are using it for the Great Glebe Garage Sale.
Hopefully, this makes sense!
It did not let me input anything. Just said no option.
Hi, I have just created an account myself to try and troubleshoot this issue. When I sign up for an account, it asked me which is my preferred charity, which is where you would then choose Ottawa Food Bank from the drop-down menu. Let me know if this works!
Thank you.
Joey
As I said it did not let me input anything just said no option.
That is very weird. In that case, I recommend you reach out directly to GiveShop at 1-800-448-0972 or info@giveshop.ca so they can better help you resolve this technical issue.
My apologies that I could not be of more help!
Hi
I am Muslim and we need food
Tks
Hi there! We’ll be happy to tell you how you can get the food you need. Can you please give us a call at 613-745-7001 between the hours of 8AM – 4PM, Monday to Friday. Thank you!
My favorite memory of volunteer with the food bank. I serve at one the centres a little boy affectly started calling me miss food bank lady . He knows my name but I am miss food bank lady.
All your recipes are really very beautiful and mouth-watering but the one which I liked is the leftover turkey sandwich. It’s a really very easy recipe that I can make for my kids as I really keep thinking about what breakfast I could make so that I never am late for office.
We’re glad you like our recipes!
Good morning,
I recently purchased for my convalescing spouse some Depends men’s, size Large undergarments which were the wrong size for him. These packages are both unopened and I was unable to return of exchange them due to store policy.
I am wondering if the Food Bank would be interested in obtaining them for possibly a Senior who may be in need?
As far as food donations are concerned, weekly when I shop, I ensure I pick up at least $20.00 worth of staple products and place them in the bin and at specific holiday times I purchase at least two pre-bagged products also for the bin at my local Loblaws.
Thank you.
Hi, thank you for your weekly contributions and for reaching out!
We would absolutely accept those. You can donate those as you would your regular food donations.
Thank you so much for your support.
Would like a calendar for next you to my new address please.

Having always enjoyed innovative art forms especially those rendered in metals or wood I stopped at my neighbors to compliment him on his garden renovation and to admire the sculpture. I learned the background re CROWVID19 and was impressed by the fund raised, at that time just over $7000. It is heartwarming to see that it is still going. Keep up the great work.
When in the next week or so would my donation get the best matching funds? Should I wait until Dec 3rd?
Hi there!
Today, Thanks to Sobeys and their generosity, each donation to the Ottawa Food Bank will be matched – up to $10,000.
However, there is no bad time to donate. Every dollar donated gets transformed into approx. $5 worth of food.

Thank you!
please explain why the orleans community centre /food bank is canvassing for donations when I asked the ottawa food bank if they served the greater ottawa area and they said yes.
ottawa. food bank received a large $ boost with donations and this should be shared
Hi there,
Thank you for your concern. We do send food to the Orléans-Cumberland Food Bank. Each food bank is its own separate entity, and a lot of them ask for donations for food items they may elect to purchase that we may not always be able to provide.
I hope this clarifies things a little bit for you.
Hello,
I’m hoping you can steer me in the right direction.
We, (my husband and I) are having a very hard time. I was wondering if we would be able to get some help, to have a Christmas box of food, for our Christmas meal. We always, always, go to my Parents for Christmas but this year, we made the very difficult decision to stay home and keep everyone safe & healthy, due to Covid.
This will be my first year to do a Christmas meal. We would need a small turkey, potatoes, carrots or turnip and maybe a christmas cookie tray. I would be so grateful for some help. I’ve never had to ask for help in the 32 years I’ve been married. I’m somewhat ashamed but I want my Husband and I, to have a meal together for Christmas.
Thank you if you could help.

Hi ! I am a teacher in the OCDSB. I have changed my language program this year to involve a lot of environmental issues.
The start of our year, we are looking at food waste. We are reading articles, watching videos, and discovering ways to reduce food waste in our own homes and in the community.
We are going to watch a video soon of a guy who travelled the USA and dumpster dove behind grocery stores. The amount of food he grabbed was phenomenal. He mentioned that grocery stores throw out so much food, and all they have to do is agree to set it aside instead of garbaging it in order to save this food.
This was amazing to read that you do this. I have a few questions.
Would you be able to provide a list of grocery stores that currently don’t take part so we could contact and ask if they would?
Are you at capacity for the amount of food that you recover? Or can you always expand your operation?
Where specifically is the recovered food used?
Is there anyone from your organization who could do an online presentation online for students? Explain what you do, how many people you help, how the process works, etc?
Thank you for taking the time to reply, it is much appreciated!
An email would be even better.
I’m excited to get students understanding some of the efforts that communities put forth in the battle against climate change. 🙂
Hi Christopher,
Thank you for reaching out to us and for the interest in our Food Recovery Program.
A member of our team will be in contact with your shortly to answer your questions and provide you with additional information.

Can I drop off hygiene products before May 26th?
Good morning Lorraine,
This is a campaign and post from 2016 – so unfortunately this exact event is not happening at this time. However, yes – we still accept hygiene products and menstrual products for people who menstruate. Thank you for wanting to support people in our community with this important need.
You’re welcome to drop items off at an Ottawa Food Bank donation bin in an Ottawa-area grocery store near you!
Thanks again!

Hello Ann,
This is a blog post from 2011. This year the CTV Holiday Helpers Food Drive is taking place tomorrow (Thursday, December 7, 2023).
I am available for volunteer work. Contact me at any time.
Hey Victor,
If you’d like to volunteer, you’re welcome to sign up yourself for an available shift at your convenience using our calendar and sign up tool: https://ofb.volunteerhub.com/vv2/
I would like to sign up for the christmas hamper please
Hello Amanda,
The Ottawa Food Bank is not providing Christmas Hampers this year (2023), this blog post is from 2018. You may reach out to 2-1-1 to see if any other organizations or local food banks might be organizing something similar.
Our sincere apologies for any confusion.
Dec 20th is when I am supposed to collect my hamper.
This is 2675, Inner a road.
Can you email me the time and date again ?
V kirubaharan
Hello,
The Ottawa Food Bank is not distributing any hampers for Christmas. You would have to get in touch with whomever you originally were speaking with or that specific member agency. This blog post is also from 2018 and thus outdated.
Hi we have a large donation to make and we are wondering if it is still possible to do it in a way that we can have it matched?
Hello, unfortunately not presently.
I would be interested in physically volunteering at the food bank anyway, I can contribute I will still have to get a police check. I just recently retired from long-term care at the Perley veterans and taking care of my husband who passed away last year. It’s time for me to get out and meet others I have friends that also volunteer with you so hopefully you will be interested in interviewing me.
Hello, thank you for your interest in volunteer. Please follow the directions available on our volunteer webpage: https://www.ottawafoodbank.ca/volunteer-to-help/
If you have any questions? Please reach out to our Coordinator of Volunteer Resources, Adam Janes, at adam@ottawafoodbank.ca or by calling 613-745-7001 ex 138.
I am a Food Law professor at the University of Ottawa and I was wondering if you have a policy on best before dates?
thanks
Hello Heather,
We’ve sent the document over to you via email.
Hi! I was wondering if, since all the tickets are sold, the raffle date could be moved forward?
It will be very difficult for the winner to find accommodations in Toronto that close to the date, so it might be nice to announce the winner sooner.
Thanks!
what if im 15 and need diapers?

Hello,
Please get in touch with 2-1-1 and they’ll be best able to direct your request to the appropriate supports.
